Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the design process?
A: We meet with the owners and other designers (architect, interior design) and develop a design direction. We then produce a set of drawings showing all lighting fixture locations, control and data locations and AV equipment, and work to coordinate with other trades in the field.
After the electrician has finished his wiring, we pull the low voltage wiring for controls, data, and speakers. Once the walls are closed up and the paint has dried, we come back to the jobsite and begin the commissioning process.
Our AV team begins the installation process, placing TVs, connecting components, and programming touchscreens. Meanwhile, our lighting designers program the lighting system, focus and aim all adjustable lights, and set dimming levels and scenes. After the homeowner has moved in and art has been hung on the walls, a final aiming and focusing check is made.
Q: What if I want to change the programming in my system after the job is complete?
A: Let us know. Some changes need to be made on site, while others can be made over the Internet. We encourage changes, and we know that as you use your system you will have new ideas about things you would like to see.
Q: Why is Airmada different than any other company?
A: We provide one-stop-shopping for lighting design, home theatre and audio-video design, motorized shades, and low voltage wiring. There are no hassles with trying to coordinate multiple consultants and designers on one jobsite.
Q: How are all those systems tied together?
A: We use one software package to unite the lighting, AV, and shading systems. This software can also communicate with fire alarms, security systems, and HVAC. By using one software system, we streamline the programming.
Q: How much do your services cost?
A: The costs vary based on project scope, size, complexity of system, and of the components. During our first meeting, we will give you rule-of-thumb pricing to help establish a budget.
Q: Can I buy everything from you?
A: Airmada sells a myriad of audio-video products, speakers, components, dimming systems, touch screens, and low voltage wire. Each project will be quoted on an individual basis with a complete Bill of Materials tailored to the design.
Q: Does Airmada do electrical design?
A: Usually the electrical design for plugs and service devices is done by the electrical contractor, who will layout such devices under local and national codes. We can do full designs in conjunction with Electrical and Mechanical Engineers with PE stamps. Our engineers have stamps throughout the West. Please contact us for more information.
Q: Does Airmada draw by hand or computer? What if my drawings are by hand?
A: All of our design work is done in AutoCAD. Hand-drafting is very slow and is difficult to coordinate all of the systems in a smart home. If you have hand drawings, our staff can convert these to CAD format as part of our services.
